Carillon Children’s Choir is for children Kindergarten through 5th grade.  The repertoire ranges from world folk songs to the classics by composers such as Bach, Brahms, Mozart, Handel and Copeland.  The group also learns to play the choir chimes.  Correct breathing and vocal production is emphasized, and the history and cultural background of the music and basic music theory is also taught.  The group rehearses from September through December for the Fall/Winter season and January through May for the Spring season.  The Children’s Choir performs on numerous occasions throughout the year and presents a Winter and Spring formal recital.

Piano students work out of the Faber and Faber method books.  The lesson, theory, recital and technique books are used at each lesson.  Lessons are $13.50/half hour and students are expected to practice at home a minimum of 5 days per week for 15-30 minutes or more, depending on the student's level.  Students should plan on participating in Winter and Spring piano recitals.

Quarter Notes music exploration classes are offered for children ages 3-5.  The Alfred “Music For Little Mozarts” lesson book and workbooks are used in a group piano setting for a portion of the class time.  Children also learn about rhythm and melody and express themselves while singing, dancing and playing folk and classical music.

Voice students are instructed in the classical vocal tradition, and are taught correct breathing, diction and vocal balance and onset for optimal vocal production.  Students should ideally be at least 12 years old to begin classical training in a private setting, but singers who are doing a great deal of auditioning or solo singing are welcome to enquire about lessons.

Beginning students sing out of Alfred’s Folk Songs for Beginners book in either medium high or medium low, and one additional beginner book to be determined after vocal evaluation is made.

Advanced students will begin work in the 24 Italian Art Songs and Arias, as well as study arias and art songs from various genres that are age and voice appropriate.  Students are also welcome to bring in music that they enjoy, such as popular music (both mainstream and country), musical theater pieces and jazz standards.  Time can also be used during lessons to prepare for musical theater and choir auditions as needed.  Recitals and master classes are held throughout the year.  Tuition for a half-hour lesson is $15.00/lesson.

AP Music Theory tutoring is also available for individuals and groups.  Call or email me for more information.
